Sound effects, music, visual effects!
Incompetech.com
The OG royalty-free music site. The guy who runs it, Kevin MacLeod, makes a huge variety of instrumental songs of pretty much every genre, and puts them up on the site ready to be downloaded and used—for free! The amount and quality of Mr. MacLeod's work is staggering. If you're looking for some high quality soundtrack for your project, then look no further than incompetech. You can use these songs for any purpose you want—that's right, even commercially—under the simple condition of properly crediting the author. We need more people like Kevin MacLeod in this world.
Since the days of the original Incompetech.com, Kevin has gone on to create a new and improved version of the website which you can see here:
Soundbible.com
A useful website for finding the sound effects you need for your project. There's a nice variety of sound effects here to choose from, and you can download as many as you want for absolutely no charge. All you need to do is keep an eye on the license that comes with the sound effect. If it says "Personal Use only", I'd be careful because those won't necessarily be copyright-friendly. However, if it's Public Domain or Attribution (most are), then knock yourself out!
Freesound.org
This site is similar to Soundbible.com, but is more user-oriented. Anyone can join and upload their own sounds, and all sounds are provided by the community. You need to be a member to download stuff, but that's no problem because it's free all the way. Freesound has far more variety than Soundbible, a truly staggering amount. Pretty much anything you'd need can be found here, and as such it's still the main website I use today to hunt for new sound effects. Like in Soundbible, keep an eye on the license to make sure it fits your needs.
Video Copilot
This place is great for all your special effects needs. They offer a lot of stuff like music, lense flares, etc, but the main thing I use it for is Action Essentials 2. Action Essentials 2 is a massive package of action related special effects: Explosions, glass shatters, muzzle flashes, fire, debris, dust, water splashes, you name it. The effects all come in .mov format and are pre-keyed, meaning the backgrounds are already transparent so you won't have to do any green screening. The price may seem a little high at $100 for the 720p version, but once you realize just how much is included and how much effort they put in, you'll see that it's worth the purchase.
TeknoAXE
Need music? TeknoAXE has got you covered. Similarly to Kevin MacLeod's incompetech.com, TeknoAXE allows people to download and use his music, even commercially, under the condition that he is credited. TeknoAXE's work is mind blowing both in terms of quality and quantity. Many of his tracks you will see are inspired by a variety of popular media, giving them a very cinematic feel. I'm personally a fan of his horror and action tracks. Oh and did I mention that it's all free?
AudioMicro.com
In this website you will find a vast library of music and sound effects, most of which you have to pay for, but if you're looking for some high quality and in many cases famous/iconic sound effects, then AudioMicro.com may be worth a look. I myself have purchased a slew of sound effects, because I'm a sucker when it comes to these iconic creature roars and growls I've heard in movies, shows, and games. The best part is that once purchased, you get a lifetime license for the sound effect allowing you to use it in basically whatever kind of productions you want, which is certainly a big plus.
